Won Institute has a rolling admissions process, meaning applications are accepted year round, and all fully completed applications are reviewed on a monthly basis.
*Only Won Buddhist Studies and Doctor of Acupuncture Program Completion Track enroll in the spring term. All other programs enroll in fall term only.

1. Start your application online by visiting our Apply Now page. Fill out the form to create an account. Make sure you are selecting the correct application form based on your program of interest.
DAc Applicants: If you are applying to the Doctor of Acupuncture Program, select “Doctor of Acupuncture Program” for the full four-year program, which includes the Master’s and Doctoral level courses. Select “Doctor of Acupuncture Program Completion Track” for the one year online doctorate completion program for Master’s level acupuncture program graduates.
2. Once you create an account, you will be automatically redirected to your application form to get started. You will receive a link via email to get back into the form, and your responses are auto-saved.
3. Read all instructions on the application form carefully. Application requirements include a letter of intent, time management statement, two professional or academic references, application fee and photo ID.
• Doctor of Acupuncture Program applicants are required to submit a writing sample and resume/CV.
• Applicants to the Won Buddhist Studies Program ordination-track must have references submitted from specific individuals. Please read the full application form for additional information and requirements.
1. After submitting your application, your application will be reviewed by our Admissions Committee. The Admissions Committee meets monthly to review fully complete applications.
2. You will then receive an email from the respective Program Director(s) inviting you to an Admissions Interview which is conducted remotely.
1. After your admissions interview, you will receive your admissions decision via email from the Admissions Office. Review your admissions letter including any outstanding prerequisites or corequisites, and instructions for Financial Aid.
2. Submit Enrollment Deposit
a. Deposits are due within 30 days of acceptance and are $300 for all programs. They can be paid via our Online Enrollment Deposit form.
How long does it take to receive an admissions decision after I submit my application?
It depends on when you submit it. It could take as little as two weeks or up to a month. We review applications on a monthly basis.
How do I set up a call or in-person visit?

Can I sit in on a class?
Yes! Email [email protected] to set this up and we can help coordinate a time for you to observe either an in-person or online course. All class observations must be approved by Admissions and the respective course instructor.
Can you waive my application fee?
Yes, we will waive your application fee if you attend one of our information sessions.
Why do I need to enter my Social Security Number on my application?
It is necessary to process your application, Federal Financial Aid and your 1098-T form for tax purposes. Your SSN # is hidden in your profile and only accessible to necessary staff members.
I started an application previously but never finished it. Do I have to start over?
If your application is for a different year than you initially applied for, yes you would need to start a new application form. If it is for the same academic year, just ask us and we will resend you a link to get back into your application.
I don’t have a previous writing sample I can use for my Doctor of Acupuncture Program application. What should I do?
You can complete a new writing sample on any subject related to the field of Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine following MLA/APA format guidelines, including references. At least 4-5 pages double spaced is a good guideline. The Purdue Owl at https://owl.purdue.edu/ is a helpful writing resource.
I don’t have a Bachelor’s degree. Do you accept students without a Bachelor’s degree?
No we do not. Applicants to all programs must have a Bachelor’s degree at minimum. If you are currently completing a Bachelor’s degree program, you can apply the year you plan to complete the degree, and be accepted conditionally pending degree completion.
Can I complete my Bachelor’s degree at Won Institute?
No, we are a graduate school only. We accept Bachelor’s degrees from any accredited institution. If you would like recommendations for online degree completion programs, reach out to us at [email protected].
Do I need to have all of the prerequisites and/or corequisites completed before applying?
Prerequisites can be completed concurrently during the admissions process. A conditional acceptance can be processed while prerequisites are being completed. They must be completed prior to the start of classes. Corequisites for the Doctor of Acupuncture Program do not need to be completed prior to enrolling, but must be completed prior to graduation.
What is the difference between a prerequisite and a corequisite?
A prerequisite must be completed before the start of one of our degree programs, while a corequisite can be completed concurrently during the program, and must be completed prior to graduation.
Do you offer the required Anatomy & Physiology prerequisites for the Acupuncture programs?
Yes we do! We offer the A&P courses completely online and in an asynchronous format each summer term (starting in May). Review our A&P page for more information.
What about the Biology, Chemistry and Psychology corequisites for the Doctor of Acupuncture programs?
Yes, we offer a Biochemistry of Plants course which can satisfy either the Biology or Chemistry corequisite. We offer a Buddhist Psychology course to satisfy the Psychology corequisite for those who have not already completed a satisfactory Psychology course.
Do you accept Anatomy & Physiology credits from massage schools?
It depends on the school’s accreditation status and if the courses were equivalent to at least 3 credits each. If we can confirm that the school was accredited, we can typically accept the credits. Please check with the admissions department to confirm.

How much is tuition?

Does your school offer Federal Financial Aid?
Yes, all of our programs offer Federal Financial Aid. Students must be enrolled at least part-time in order to qualify.

I am a veteran. Do you accept VA Benefits?
Yes, we do accept VA benefits. To initiate the process, contact the US Department of Veterans Affairs at https://www.va.gov/.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept payment via check, cash, or credit/debit card paid via our online payment portal in Populi (our student information system). There is a 3% processing fee for online payments.
Transcripts: To help expedite the process, ensure your official transcripts are sent digitally to [email protected]. We require transcripts from all institutions attended after high school.
References: References are sent and received via the Won Institute Online Recommendation Form via the online application. Sometimes, they may end up in spam/junk or “Promotions” folder in Gmail. The sender is “[email protected]”. Let your reference know this ahead of time to avoid any delays!

Admissions Interview Tips
The goal of the admissions interview is to gain a more complete picture of you as an applicant, your qualifications, and motivation for applying to our program. This is also a great opportunity for you to ask us questions to ensure our program is a good fit for you! You may be evaluated on your ability to interact with you future clients and other professionals, academic preparedness, commitment and motivation as well as overall fit within the program.
