The Contemplative Psychotherapy program is a non-degree continuing education program designed to introduce mental health clinicians to Buddhist psychology, meditation and the application of meditation to clinical work. This program is a synthesis of didactic and hands-on learning. The practical application of meditation to psychotherapy will be emphasized and participants will be encouraged to bring anonymous case material to class. Participants will gain a foundation in Buddhist psychology and will learn how to develop their own meditation practice and how to help clients meditate as well. The application of meditation to the treatment of anxiety, depression and more difficult emotional disorders will be explored.
Each intensive weekend begins on Friday evening with introductions and orientation, followed by a full Saturday taught by guest lecturers and specialists, and ending at noon on Sunday. Students can choose to participate in all three weekends in order to receive a certificate, or they can attend only one or two of the weekends, depending on personal interest. Each weekend offers 12 ceu’s, or 36 ceu’s for the entire certificate.
