Personal Development. Professional Achievement.

Academics

The Won Institute offers a variety of professional degree and certificate programs aimed at preparing graduates for employment in a variety of helping professions, such as: acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and Won Buddhist ministry.

Although the curriculum of each program is unique, a common core of contemplative and meditative coursework links our students to the mission of the Won Institute. The focus on contemplation and self-reflection through meditation provides our students with another tool to help their patients, students, and congregation. The Won Institute offers a unique educational experience and is accredited regionally by Middle States Commission on Higher Education and programatically by the Accreditaton Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine.

Our Academic Programs

Doctor of Acupuncture Program

The Doctor of Acupuncture program is designed to prepare its graduates for leadership in the field of acupuncture and integrative medicine. The Doctor of Acupuncture program leads to a Doctor of Acupuncture degree, allowing graduates to receive the highest level of education in the field, and achieve degree parity alongside other doctorally-trained healthcare professionals.

Doctor of Acupuncture Program Completion Track

The Doctor of Acupuncture Program Completion Track consists of a one-year professional program that is offered in an asynchronous, online format. The program consists of eight courses equaling 24 credits and a community-based clinical experience.

Certificate in Chinese Herbal Medicine

Designed for both current acupuncture students and licensed acupuncturists, CCHM is a flexible hybrid two-year program that prepares students to sit for the NCCAOM Chinese Herbology Exam. Lecture classes are held fully online with in-person clinical requirements.

Master of Acupuncture Studies Program

Since the program’s inception in 2005, our Master of Acupuncture Studies Degree has been one of the most successful programs at the Won Institute of Graduate Studies. Students enrolled in our accredited three-year Master’s degree program gain a comprehensive understanding of Chinese Medical Theory and the ancient and modern uses of acupuncture.

Master of Won Buddhist Studies

As the only only higher education institution offering the study of Won Buddhism outside of South Korea, our two-year Master of Won Buddhist Studies program is specifically designed to present Won Buddhism within a Western context, preparing students to practice and teach Won Buddhism in the United States.

Certificate in Won Buddhist Studies

The Won Buddhism Certificate (WBC) is an 18-credit program for students wishing to further their understanding of Won Buddhism in the context of other Buddhist and religious traditions. Students can tailor their course of study to satisfy their individual interests and development goals.

What Our Students Say

I love the Won! I am so glad I chose to come here and pursue the Acupuncture program. The teachers are all so varied and we get a very full education preparing us for a new career. I’m especially happy with the focus on both TCM & Five Element acupuncture styles that the Won offers. As a veteran I couldn’t think of a better way to use my GI Bill studying this form of holistic medicine. It’s has, is and hopefully will continue to be a great experience!
