About Our Clinic

The Student Chinese Herbal Medicine Clinic is staffed by our second-year interns, the majority of whom are already licensed acupuncturists. They are supervised by licensed faculty members with extensive clinical experience. In this clinic, patients can elect to be treated with herbs alone or with a combination of acupuncture and herbal medicine. Patients receive a custom raw herbal formula that has been created just for them to address their specific health concerns.

What Is Chinese Herbal Medicine?

Chinese herbal medicine stems from centuries-old practices created in Asia. These practices are still widely used today and have gained acclaim worldwide. The Certificate in Chinese Herbal Medicine program at Won Institute of Graduate Studies draws on these sacred traditions and teaches them to a new generation so these tools can continue to be a part of one’s healthful life. Our students go on to establish their own practices and share what they’ve learned.

Many people are hesitant to consider visiting a Chinese herbal medicine clinic as they are unfamiliar with the practice. You can rest assured knowing all our herbal supplements are rigorously tested to ensure no harmful additives are going into your body. We believe in clean, natural medicine, and everything we do at our clinic reflects that.

At the Won Institute of Graduate Studies, our students learn from our experienced clinical supervisors about how Chinese herbal medicine can be an effective way of treating many common medical problems. They’ll learn to identify and use over 300 Chinese herbs and more than 100 herbal formulas for treating fertility, respiratory diseases, heart disease, digestion and mental illnesses.

Once they’ve shown proficiency in diagnosing, mixing and administering medicines, they’ll join the Chinese herbal medicine clinic. Under careful supervision, students will gain real experience in working with patients while their supervisors assist their progress and ensure every patient receives the formulations that will best help their conditions.

What Should I Expect at My Appointment? Won Institute Clinics

What Should I Expect at My Appointment?

When you come into our clinic, you’ll meet with one or more student interns, as well as their supervising clinician. During your first appointment, they’ll complete a thorough examination and assessment of the areas where you need the most assistance. Then, they’ll create a unique blend of herbs specifically for you that combats your concerns.

Our student interns are also licensed acupuncturists, and a small extra fee will also cover an acupuncture session during your consultation. Depending on your treatment, this may help you reap the full benefits of your prescribed herbs or simply provide you with another boost of healing through a natural, holistic process.

Your prescription will likely consist of whole dried herbs or concentrated granules. Your provider will give you specific instructions regarding how to use it and how often you should take it. Generally, you put the herbs into boiling water and let them steep or dissolve in the water before you drink it. Every treatment is different based on the person and the ailments they’re treating, but most herbal medicine needs to be taken daily for a few months to see the best results.
